Diamond grading is the process of evaluating a diamond's quality based on the 4Cs:

  • Carat weight – The diamond’s weight, measured in carats.

  • Cut – The precision of the diamond’s cut, affecting its brilliance.

  • Color – The presence or absence of color in a diamond (graded from D (colorless) to Z (yellow/brown)).

  • Clarity – The presence of internal or external imperfections (inclusions and blemishes).


Grading is done by professional gemological labs like GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and AGS (American Gem Society).
